NSW: PM urged to accept climate change impact on bushfires

A policy research institute says .. the Prime Minister must accept climate change will
increase bushfire outbreaks .. or risk more tragedy.

JOHN HOWARD brushed off a report by the Australia Institute released yesterday .. that
linked a rise in the number and intensity of bushfires .. to the effects of climate change.

Mr HOWARD described it as an esoteric debate.

However .. Dr CLIVE HAMILTON .. the executive director of the Sydney-based think tank
.. says Mr HOWARD'S scientific ignorance on climate could endanger Australians.







Dr HAMILTON says the bushfire damage across Australia reinforces the findings of a
recent British Treasury climate change report .. which said the cost of avoiding global
warming .. will exceed the cost of reducing greenhouse gas emissions now.
