Excellent display from gym club, but only just!

Bridlington Gymnastics Club only just managed to put on their annual display for parents as they raised money for new equipment.

The event - which took place at Bridlington Sports College - very nearly didn't take place because Jarvis FM, who deal with bookings for the school after 6pm, weekends and during school holidays were not able to provide chairs for the parents to sit on, even though the club had agreed to pay for such a service.

Club spokesperson Jo Ward said: "We had been planning this display for quite a long time, not only is it a chance for parents to see how their children are progressing, it is also a fund-raiser towards new equipment and without chairs the event would not have been held, we could not ask parents to sit on the floor.

"However, thanks to Martongate Primary School for the loan of their chairs the display went ahead and although we didn't raise much money due to van hire costs, we have received positive reports regarding the performances and standard of gymnastics.

"Thanks also go to Gary for driving the hire van, Bridlington School, parents, coaches and volunteers for all their help."

The very successful evening, with floor and beam routines, was enjoyed by all. The children also put on trampette, vault and air track displays, - the new vault and air track were bought last year with money raised doing various fund raising events and donations to the club.

At the end of the evening there was a presentation of awards to gymnasts for their achievements over the past year. Violet Costandi was awarded gymnast of the year, Megan Martin and Nicole Lawrance received trophies for special achievements.

Also receiving trophies for hard working and most improved gymnasts were Emma Spooner, Samantha Abbott, Darcy Corner, Emily Street, Emilie Hakner, Emily Burdass, Amy Burgess, Lauren Kenward, Kayleigh Moore, Megan Eckford-Sealy, Grace Pugh, Emily Hart, Maisie Newby, Bethany Edeson, Bea Langton, Ebony Crawford, Laura McKellar, Harry Bainbridge, Alex Metcalf, Eimer Allott, Amy Fox and Holly Jackson.
