Fed: New diplomatic appointments

CANBERRA, Aug 18 AAP - Career diplomat and current ambassador to Thailand, William
Fisher, has been appointed Australia's new ambassador to France.

Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer said Mr Fisher would replace John Spender,
QC, who has been ambassador since 1996.

Also appointed today was Robert Tyson as ambassador to Saudi Arabia, with accreditation
to Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.

Penelope Richards was appointed Australia's Consul-General in Shanghai.
