WEATHER QLD BRISBANE 1800

QUEENSLAND WEATHER SUMMARY:

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS: Nil.

RAINFALL SUMMARY: There were isolated falls over Cape York Peninsula in the 6 hours to 3pm
yesterday. The highest fall was 11mm at Weipa.

TEMPERATURE SUMMARY: Maximum temperatures across the state were generally below normal due
to cool dry air associated with the high which has influenced the state over the past few
days. The greatest departure from normal was 4 degrees at both Tewantin and Charters Towers
with 25 and 30 degrees respectively. Once again, the only exceptions were Mt Isa and
Birdsville which both recorded above average temperatures due to warm northerly winds in
border parts.

NOTES ON THE WEATHER CHART: A weak 1016 hpa high was located off the northern New South
Wales coast and extended a ridge up the Queensland coast. This high circulated cool, dry and
stable NE to SE winds across most of Queensland and maintained the generally fine weather.
There was an inland trough near the western border ahead of the next upstream surface trough,
which is now moving eastwards across south-eastern Australia. A weak Monsoon trough lies
across the northern Cape York Peninsular linking a series of weak lows from the Timor Sea to
the Coral Sea. This produced some isolated shower and thunderstorm activity during the day.
