NEW YORK -- The prospect of Roger Clemens hooking up against a sometimes troublesome, generally overweight former teammate in Hideki Irabu made for an interesting backdrop to the New York Yankees' 9-3 win over the Montreal Expos Wednesday night.
The fact that Clemens, 8-1, pitched well enough without his best stuff to help the Yankees snap their three-game losing streak was even more important.
Not that the Yankees didn't relish dropping Irabu to 0-2, but as manager Joe Torre said before the game, ``If we had to rely on facing ex-teammates for motivation, we'd be in trouble.''
